Himachal Pradesh government releases booklet to promote rural tourism

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has released the first volume of a booklet titled 'Har Gaon Ki Kahani' with an aim to provide impetus to rural tourism in the state.

The booklet comprises of twelve stories from twelve villages of the state, which would help to create awareness about them.

Speaking to mediapersons, Dhumal said that Himachal Pradesh had a huge potential with its unique locales and landscape, which still remains unexplored.

He added that this initiative taken by the state tourism department should be lauded, as it shall aid the rural and remote regions to emerge as alternative tourist spots.

"As compared to our population, more than twice its number of tourists had arrived. As told more foreign tourists comes to Himachal Pradesh than to Goa. We would like to see more tourists arriving in Himachal. We want that there should be an increase in the floating population of the tourist," Dhumal said.

"We would gather more resources, and our people should be employed, and the most important thing is that rural population would be employed when the tourists would visit the rural areas. This is our objective. So, the contribution of tourism for GSDP (Gross State Domestic Product) at present is 7-8 percent, which we can increase it to 15 percent," he added.

He further said that the booklet would serve as a catalyst in boosting the tourism to the state.

Moreover, the information contained in the booklet will help to create awareness about the possible vacation destinations in the hilly region.
