Hasan Ali case: ED officer suspended for 'shoddy probe'

May 6, 2011 - New Delhi

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has suspended an officer for allegedly conducting a shoddy probe into the money laundering case involving Pune-based stud farm owner Hasan Ali Khan.

According to reports, the investigating agency is expected to conduct an inquiry against ED officer Amrinder Kumar Singh, who was suspended on Thursday for conducting a 'shoddy probe'.

A Mumbai sessions court had on April 30 granted a three-day custody of Hasan Ali, who is alleged to have stashed away over eight billion dollars in Swiss banks, to the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The Enforcement Directorate arrested Ali, who also has been accused of forging documents to acquire multiple passports, in Mumbai on the night of March 7 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The Income Tax Tribunal had on March 4 issued a showcause notice to Hasan Ali.
