Fugitive druglord Santosh Shetty jailed in Mumbai

Mumbai Police on Friday confirmed that fugitive don Santosh Shetty has been jailed after being extradited from Thailand.

Crime Branch police said Shetty was wanted in several cases, including contract killings and drug smuggling, and added that he was brought in from Bangkok.

Shetty was originally a member of the Chhota Rajan gang. He split from it in 2004 and formed his own outfit. He was actively involved in extortion, smuggling, kidnapping and contract killing, a police official revealed.

A court has remanded him to police custody till August 17.

Shetty is suspected in the February 2009 killing of lawyer Shahid Azmi, who was representing suspects in the serial train blasts, the November 2010 killing of Rajan henchman Farid Tanasha and the October 2010 killing of gangster Bharat Nepali in a Bangkok hotel.

The arrest of Shetty, alias Anna, occurred on Thursday night in a beer bar after he got into a brawl with a few businessmen.
