Five militants killed as Indian Army foils infiltration bid in J-K


August 20, 2011 - Srinagar

Five militants were killed when the Indian Army foiled a major infiltration bid near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Gurez sector on Saturday.

According to reports, the militants were trying to sneak into the state from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) when the Army spotted them.

Two Army officers were killed and another soldier was injured in a subsequent gunbattle with the militants, DD News reports.

"Five militants have been killed," Lieutenant Colonel J.S. Brar, spokesman of the Indian Army's Srinagar based 15th corps, said.
