Congress accuses Advani of hypocrisy and double standards

October 31, 2011 - New Delhi

Congress General Secretary BK Hari Prasad on Monday accused veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani of hypocrisy and double standards, saying the latter should have carried out a 'purification' Yatra, instead of his nationwide 'Jan Chetna Yatra.'

"I am no man to advise Advaniji as far as his yatra is concerned. But his yatra has exposed the hypocrisy and the double standards of the Bharatiya Janata Party, wherein they are attacking the Centre on corruption, whereas they have forgotten the neck-deep corruption in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Karnataka," Hariprasad told the media here.

"The corrupt practices of the BJP government there in Karnataka, almost half a dozen ex-ministers and one ex-Chief Minister is in jail and another half a dozen ex-ministers are trying for bail," he added.

Asserting that they (BJP) have lost all the moral right to criticise Congress on corruption, Advani said: "They have no right to criticise because their party is in a stage where they are involved in a lot of corrupt practices."

Earlier, Advani had said he has lost all respect for Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh because he is leading a corrupt government.

Addressing a rally in Bangalore, Advani said he had never seen a more corrupt government than the one led by Dr. Manmohan Singh.

"Before becoming the Prime Minister of the country, I respected Manmohan Singh. I held him in great esteem, I thought that he was a good, competent administrator. But today I am very sad to say that I have never seen a more corrupt government," said Advani.
