July 7, 2011 - New Delhi

Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal has urged the Jharkhand Government to bring all its allocated coal blocks in operation as early as possible to ensure more availability of coal.

During a meeting with Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda here today, Jaiswal said that the government may reconsider the deallocation of two coal blocks to Jharkhand in view of special circumstances and reasons explained by the state for the delay.

Munda, Deputy Chief Minister Hement Soren and senior officials called on Jaiswal to discuss the issue of availability of coal and status of various coal mining projects in the state.

Munda was also urged to provide more security to facilitate night loading of coal on normal working days as in some areas large quantity of pitted coal needs immediate dispatch.

It was also pointed out to the state that local forest clearance for some of the projects of the public sector coal companies are pending and needed to be expedited.

Munda said his government would look into these issues.
