CWG scam: BJP accuses Congress of defending Delhi CM Dikshit

August 14, 2011 - New Delhi

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday accused the ruling Congress Party of defending Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who has been indicted by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India over irregularities observed in the 2010 Commonwealth Games (CWG).

Thousands of BJP supporters protested at various places in the national capital today and demanded Dikshit's resignation by holding her responsible for wasteful expenditure to the tune of billions of rupees during the 2010-sporting extravaganza.

"No action has been taken after CAG report and Shunglu Committee report. The Prime Minister has gone silent. Top leaders of the Congress are defending her. Kapil Sibal (HRD Minister) says 'nobody can remove Sheila Dikshit'," said BJP leader Vijender Gupta.

"That means thieves are crying foul. They would indulge in corruption and then they challenge that nobody can remove them," he added.

Shouting anti-government slogans, the protestors also burnt an effigy of Dikshit.
