Arrest warrant issued against former Karnataka CM Yeddyurappa

October 15, 2011 - Bangalore

A special Lokayukta court has rejected former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa's bail application in connection with the land denotification case.

Yeddyurappa is likely to be arrested soon, as an arrest warrant has been issued against him.

The special court trying cases involving Yeddyurappa had adjourned proceedings to October 15 following the stay granted by the High Court on September 30.

This has come as a major embarrassment for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as Yeddyurappa had led their first government in the South.

Former Lokayukta Santosh Hegde"s independent inquiry into mining graft in Karnataka, accused Yeddyurappa and other key officials for causing a loss of at least 160 billion rupees to the state exchequer between 2006 and 2010 from illegal mining and a litany of abuses.

Yeddyurappa tendered his resignation on July 31 to Governor Hansraj Bhardwaj, following allegations of corruption that was later accepted.
