Air India CMD Arvind Jadhav to be sacked soon: Vayalar Ravi

August 12, 2011 - New Delhi

Union Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi on Friday confirmed that Air India Chairman and Managing Director Arvind Jadhav would be replaced soon.

"The CMD (Chairman Managing Director) is going and definitely we will make the appointment of the new person along with that. It is a matter of, may be I should say, a day," Ravi said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has repeatedly accused the UPA government at the Centre of appointing an "unqualified" person at the helm of national carrier Air India, which apparently led to financial mismanagement and losses as noted in the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report.

The CAG report has accused the airline management for poor foresight and noted that purchase of new aircraft had caused a massive loss of two billion rupees.

The report further suggested that the plan to add new aircraft in its fleet should have taken place in two phases.
