Adamant Ramdev refuses to give up fast

June 9, 2011 - Haridwar

Despite spiritual leaders trying to convince the yoga guru to call off his fast, Baba Ramdev on Thursday remained firm saying he will not end his six-day long fast till all the demands are met.

Some 'sant samaj' members visited Ramdev at the Patanjali Yogpeeth here and asked him to call off his fast.

According to reports, a high drama is on at Haridwar, where spiritual leaders are engaged in talks with Ramdev to end his fast.

Doctors, who examined Ramdev earlier in the day, described his condition to be unsatisfactory.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Yogesh Sharma, who was accompanied by other health officers, after Ramdev's check-up told mediapersons that there are concerns over his health.

"The condition of Swami Ramdev is dissatisfactory and his weight has come down to 58 kilograms from 60 kilograms. His weight is around 58.5 kilograms and we have found symptoms of dehydration and the water content in his body is less," he said after examining Ramdev.

Dr. Sharma further said they have asked the yoga guru to consume food and water before his health deteriorates further.

"In this state, we request him to eat or drink something. We have suggested to him to immediately consume something, otherwise his health could deteriorate further,"e added.

Ramdev was on a hunger strike against corruption along with 65,000 followers when the police on the government's orders dismantled the elaborate camp late on Saturday night that had been set up at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan.
