Srinagar, Jan 25 : The authorities have beefed up security in and around the Bakshi Stadium here ahead of Republic Day celebrations.

Armed policemen have been deployed outside the Bakshi stadium, which is the venue for the celebrations of the 60th Republic Day.

Many important dignitaries including State Chief Minster Omar Abdullah will attend the celebrations on Tuesday.

Besides guarding the Bakshi temple, the police and paramilitary personnel have also been deployed in every nook and corner of the city to keep a check on any troublesome activity.

The police personnel are continuously taking rounds in several areas of the city including Lal Chowk, Hari Singh High Street, Batmaloo, Lal Mandi and Gogji Bagh.

The security forces are leaving no stones unturned to ensure proper security and safety, and are also conducting checks on the local residents, asking them to produce identification cards.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hemant Kumar Lohia said, "We are ready to face any attempts that might be made, but firstly, we want to ensure that we can prevent any such incidents from taking place."

"And, if we fail to prevent the threat, then we are ready to take the challenge and we will be ready to neutralise the attempt," added Lohia.
