Tour on solar vehicle by Indian Youth Climate Network culminates

The 4000 kilometres road tour, undertaken by volunteers of Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN) that began from Chennai in vehicles run on alternative fuel of solar energy culminated here.

New Delhi, Feb 5 : The 4000 kilometres road tour, undertaken by volunteers of Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN) that began from Chennai in vehicles run on alternative fuel of solar energy culminated here.

With an aim to spread awareness about the climate change and mobilise the youth, the journey started with three electric cars, a van powered by solar energy, a van running on waste vegetable oil and a truck running on bio-fuel.

Members of the IYCN along with New York-based band Solar Punch took the initiative to send out the message that there are ways and means of fighting climate change are available in India.

Kartikeya Singh, a member of the IYCN said that solutions exist and people themselves are the solution to see the change.

"We want to tell that if we are looking for a modern and futuristic technology to make a new world, we don't need to look outside India. We have everything here in India. They are waiting for us to see the change," said Kartikeya Singh.

The members also interacted with the people about their contribution in fighting climate change in the course of the journey.

"I think what the kids of IYCN have done is fabulous. They have covered 4000 kilometres in a month by these cars to spread the message that if we do not take care of the climate change, then the coming generation will face a lot of problems," said Gourav Kapoor, an actor.

IYCN was formed less than a year ago by a group of young individuals. These youngsters are focussed on the issues of climate change and related environmental issues.

These youngsters have an effective network with other organisations in organising summits and various training programmes.
