The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for signing and ratification of the agreement on transfer of sentenced persons between India and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
New Delhi, Nov 6 : The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for signing and ratification of the agreement on transfer of sentenced persons between India and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
It would enable the sentenced persons to be near their families and would help in the process of their social rehabilitation as the HKSAR's convicted prisoners can be transferred to their home country and prisoners of Indian origin can be brought to India to serve the remaining part of their sentence.
The salient features of the agreement are as follow: a request for transfer would be made by the sentenced person or by any other person who is entitled to act on his behalf in accordance with the law of the Contracting party to which the request is made.
The request for transfer will have to be agreed upon by the transferring and the receiving parties.
