Activists of the ruling Communist Party of India - Marxist (CPI-M) today thrashed some people who had been displaced from Nandigram, forcing at least 50 of them to go back to a relief camp.

Nandigram, May 8 : Activists of the ruling Communist Party of India - Marxist (CPI-M) today thrashed some people who had been displaced from Nandigram, forcing at least 50 of them to go back to a relief camp.

The local authorities were ferrying about 150 people from a make-shift tent behind the BDO's office, when they were attacked at Maheshpur near Satengabari and Gokulnagar.

Superintendent of Police, S Panda, said that he had been informed of the violence and he was looking into it.

The decision to send the people, who were displaced by the recent violence, home with police and CRPF escort was taken at a meeting convened by the district magistrate, the BDO and the affected people last night, BDO Shantiram Gorai told news persons today.
