Well known Bengali theatre personality Ganesh Mukherjee died at a city hospital on Thursday morning.

Kolkata, May 8 : Well known Bengali theatre personality Ganesh Mukherjee died at a city hospital on Thursday morning.

Mukherjee, who was 80, had been admitted to the private hospital about a week back following renal problems.

He breathed his last at around 3:30 am. A recipient of the Natya Akademy Purashkar in 2001, Mukherjee is survived by two daughters.

He scripted dramas like 'Ki Bibhrat' (What a mess), 'Jai Jayanti' and 'Nat Nati'. They were shown for over 1,000 nights on the stage and enjoyed immense popularity.

A prolific writer, he had also penned several articles on drama and was a visiting professor for drama at the Rabindra Bharati University.
