Ex-minister Akhilesh Das resigns from Congress, Rajya Sabha

Former Union Steel Minister of State Akhilesh Das today resigned from the Congress and the Rajya Sabha citing that the old leadership was being continuously ignored and sidelined because of coterie surrounding party General Secretary and MP Rahul Gandhi.

New Delhi, May 6 : Former Union Steel Minister of State Akhilesh Das today resigned from the Congress and the Rajya Sabha citing that the old leadership was being continuously ignored and sidelined because of coterie surrounding party General Secretary and MP Rahul Gandhi.

He alleged that the coterie surrounding Rahul Gandhi was "not allowing the concerned leaders to work" in the best interest of the party. "If the coterie is not happy, then Rahul Gandhi is not happy and you cannot approach him," he said.

Das, who was dropped from the ministry in last month's reshuffle, said that the party no longer worked on the principle of "one party one post" and influential leaders were meddling into other's jobs.

Das started his political career in the early 1990s and became the youngest Mayor of Lucknow.

He is also the vice president of the Indian Badminton Association.
