Theft proof rifle racks for security forces

Paramilitary troops across the nation are using theft-proof rifle rack, which is manufactured by a firm in Ranchi.

Ranchi, May 28 : Paramilitary troops across the nation are using theft-proof rifle rack, which is manufactured by a firm in Ranchi.

The theft proof rifle rack, manufactured by Kaypee Company, is used by various security forces, and is supplied to the international and domestic airports as well.

The company, a small scale industrial unit set up in 1952, boasts of unique design of rifle racks which has also been patented and its design is a registered trademark to maintain its uniqueness.

"At present the paramilitary forces, whether Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Assam rifles, Indo-Tibetan border Police (ITBP), National Security Guard (NSG), everywhere our rifle racks are being used. I feel proud to say that the rifles used in security of our country's President are also being placed in our rifle racks," said S K Chopra, rifle rack manufacturer.

The racks are made with combination of steel and wooden structures, in which the wooden base protects the butt end of the rifle while steel body locks the rifle in secure area, without touching it to avoid abrasion due to scratches.

The sturdy racks are designed to accommodate 7.62 mm BA type rifle, 9 mm carbine guns, 7.62 mm SLR, 5.56 mm SLR, 303 rifle, AK 47 and double barrel guns. And for extra security they can also be bolted with the ground, with a special locking arrangement.

"We supply it to the entire nation. Our product is mainly for CISF and rifle rack is our main product. We manufacture rifle racks for 7.62 mm, SLR, 9 mm carbine and AK 47," said Ramanand Mishra, supervisor, factory.

The company has been honoured with the State Government's award for excellence Udyog Ratan.

Chopra, however, lamented that despite the award Jharkhand Police is yet to use their racks, even though they have procured state-of the art weaponry.

He said mere patting by state government does not encourage them, when even the Royal Nepal Army were purchasing their racks, but the police of their native state has not used it yet.

There have been several incidents where Maoists have looted armouries at police stations in several states including Jharkhand.

The mechanically operated rack, which can be opened and closed in just three seconds, can accommodate ten rifles at one go.
