A 60-year-old woman was rescued at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday from the rubble in Pengzhou, Sichuan, over 196 hours after the May 12 earthquake.
New Delhi, May 21 : A 60-year-old woman was rescued at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday from the rubble in Pengzhou, Sichuan, over 196 hours after the May 12 earthquake.
According to China's official Xinhua news agency, Wang Liqun, a retiree from the provincial capital of Chengdu, survived on rainwater, and was conscious when rescuers found her. She has since been admitted to hospital, it said.
Wang was inside a temple when the quake struck. A falling girder, according to the rescue team, hit her. She managed to creep out of the temple and fell into coma again after crawling some 800 meters. Most of her body was buried in rubble when she was found on Tuesday.
No updates of her condition were available.
Wang's rescue followed a similar kind of rescue on Tuesday morning of power plant executive Ma Yuanjiang after he had been buried for 179 hours under rubble in Wenchuan County.
