Marriott India Ranked 2nd 'Best Place to Work' an Award Instituted by the Great Place to Work Institute, India and The Economic Times

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Marriott India has garnered recognition for its human resource practices throughout the Indian sub-continent region, most recently being named as the 2nd 'Best Place To Work' as well as winning the stand-alone award for 'Creating a Great Workplace for Generation Y'. This award is instituted by the Great Place to Work Institute and The Economic Times

Great Places To Work Institute, India and the Economic Times conducted the Best Workplaces 2008 study in India, this being the fifth study in the country and Marriott India is the only hotel chain to make it to this very elite list of India's top 50 work places. This is the 3rd consecutive year Marriott India has been winning this award.

The institute has researched and promoted the concept of Great Places to Work for over 25 years and is now present in 40 countries including the US and the UK. The study used a unique employee- centric methodology. Measures were done on the levels of Trust, Pride and Camaraderie prevalent in the organization. Work places were ranked on a point scale based on both quantitative and qualitative data, with 2/3 of the score stemming from an employee survey and the balance 1/3 of the score from a management survey and the supplementary material that the organization provided. The 2008 study spanned over six months covering more than 200 participating firms, surveying 36,000 employees.

The current Marriott portfolio in India is represented by six hotels: the JW Marriott Mumbai, the Renaissance Mumbai Hotel & Convention Center, Lakeside Chalet-Marriott Executive Apartments (Mumbai), the Goa Marriott Resort, the Hyderabad Marriott Hotel, and the Courtyard by Marriott, Chennai.

"We are so proud to be recognized as a great employer in this market." said Rajeev Menon, Area Vice-President, (India, Pakistan, Maldives, Malaysia) Marriott International. "It is an 81-year old culture spearheaded by Mrs Marriott, wife of our founder. We at the Marriott follow a simple and basic philosophy - if you look after your associates, they will look after the guest. Sounds easy but very challenging to practice and replicate. That to me is the secret of our success"

Regardless of industry, the study proved two common identifiers between all of the employers named to the list: alignment of human resources practices with the organization's strategy and goals; and creation of an environment that produces a positive work experience and employee engagement.

This award comes in close heels after the recent announcement of Marriott International's grand expansion plans for India. JW Marriott and Courtyard branded hotels have been planned for Kolkata, New Delhi, Hyderabad and Amritsar respectively in association with Emaar MGF.
