Regardless of sunny weather, at least 10,000 people from cross sections of society participated in the worlds richest marathon known as Sunfeast 10 Km Marathon in Bangalore today.
Bangalore, May 18 : Regardless of sunny weather, at least 10,000 people from cross sections of society participated in the world's richest marathon known as Sunfeast 10 Km Marathon in Bangalore today.
Braving the heat and the dust senior citizens ran the marathon and reflected the true spirit with corporate executives, school children, handicapped persons, the young and the old taking part in it.
"We are a group of people representing Healthy Hearts Club as well as Non Resident Indian Parents Association. We heard about this a month ago and we were so excited that we went on to find out how to increase the awareness about this event," said Gopala Krishna, a senior citizen who took part in the marathon.
Zersenay Tadese of Eritrea bagged the 1,50,000 US Dollar Sunfeast World 10K title by completing the marathon in 27:51 seconds just three seconds ahead of his rival Moses Kipsiro of Uganda.
While in the women's section, Grace Momanyi of Kenya and Elevan Abeylegesse of Turkey were declared joint winners.
Events was held under six categories--World 10K Elite Men and Nations Challenge (10Km) for 18 years and above, Wheelchair Event (4 Km) for 12 years and above, World 10K elite Women and Nations Challenge (10Km) for 18 years and above, Senior Citizens' Run (4km) for 60 years and above, Open 10 K run and IT Challenge (10Km) for 15 years and above and Majja Run (5.7 Km) for 12 years and above.
