) : Finance Minister P Chidambaram today reiterated governments commitment to fight terrorism tooth and nail reminding that its respect for the law should not be mistaken for a soft approach towards terrorism. Although we respect human rights and laws and want these to be applied to everyone, our tolerance and respect of law should not be mistaken as soft approach towards terrorism because the Government is determined to fight terrorism tooth and nail, he said.

Jalandhar, May18 : Finance Minister P Chidambaram today reiterated government's commitment to fight terrorism 'tooth and nail' reminding that it's respect for the law should not be mistaken for a soft approach towards terrorism. Although we respect human rights and laws and want these to be applied to everyone, our tolerance and respect of law should not be mistaken as soft approach towards terrorism because the Government is determined to fight terrorism tooth and nail," he said.

Chianambaram said that terrorism knows no religion and caste .It has raised its head in all countires in the world even in the US and the UK, and added that world should unite to fight against it.

It can be wiped out from the country by the support of people as it happened in the case of Punjab, he said.

"I came here to salute the farmers of Punjab, as it contributed maximum share of food grain in the buffer stock for Public Distribution System (PDS). For the last two years, situation of the food stock has changed as godowns of the country are full of food grains and credit for the current situation goes to the farmers of Punjab," he said.

Chidambaram disclosed that production of wheat, rice and pulses has increased by eight million, 10 million and two million tonne respectively. The Centre has earmarked Rs 25,000 crore and Rs 4,882 crore for the Krishi Vikas Yojana and the National Food Security Mission respectively.
