The presiding officer of a polling booth in Howrah District, during the second phase of panchayat polls in West Bengal today was injured when a bomb was thrown towards him.

Kolkata, May 14 : The presiding officer of a polling booth in Howrah District, during the second phase of panchayat polls in West Bengal today was injured when a bomb was thrown towards him.

Three persons were arrested in connection with the attack and voting was suspended for an hour.

Few incidents of violence were also reported from Nasibpur and Amta, officials said.

A person suffered head injuries in Nadia District when Trinamool Congress supporters clashed with CPI (M) supporters at a polling booth at Haringhata.

State Minister Bankim Ghosh said that some drunk Trinamool Congress supporters allegedly disturbed voters at Mitrapur Mollah Belia area in Haringhata.

The police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

District Magistrate Omkar Singh Meena said two persons were arrested while making bombs at Shantipur Gobrachar area. Voters in large numbers were seen in front of booths at Singur.

The second phase of panchayat polls is being held in Howrah, Nadia, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas districts today.
