Seven people were killed and 15 others were injured in a detonator explosion at a stone-crushing unit at Umred in Nagpur District on Monday.
Mohpa Road (Maharashtra), May 13 : Seven people were killed and 15 others were injured in a detonator explosion at a stone-crushing unit at Umred in Nagpur District on Monday.
According to the police, the blast occurred when workers at the godown of the Sancheti Crusher Machine on Mohpa Road off Umred were unloading and checking detonators from a supply truck.
"The blast occurred when workers were checking the detonators. Seven people died on the spot and about 15 sustained injuries," said Ramesh Ghodam, investigating officer, Nagpur Police.
There were 25 detonators and six gelatine sticks in the godown.
The godown was blown to smithereens. Vehicles parked at a distance of 100 metres were also completely destroyed. Those who perished in the blast were blown to pieces.
The injured have been admitted to the Medical College Hospital in Nagpur.
