The death of a 45-year-old lawyer who was sentenced by a court in connection with a contempt case, resulted in advocates of the Allahabad High Court setting fire to a state roadways bus and damaging several vehicles here on Tuesday.

Allahabad, May 13 : The death of a 45-year-old lawyer who was sentenced by a court in connection with a contempt case, resulted in advocates of the Allahabad High Court setting fire to a state roadways bus and damaging several vehicles here on Tuesday.

S P Awasthi had been sentenced to one-month simple imprisonment last month and was lodged in a jail here. He was admitted to a hospital here on Monday following deterioration in his health.

Protesting advocates claimed that the police had tortured Awasthi.

Judicial work remains completely paralysed at the high court since the outbreak of violence.
