BJP, Congress prepare for second phase of Karnataka polls

In the second phase of elections for the Karnataka assembly constituency of Bellary, the battle is between two feudal families, one belonging to the Congress and the other to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Bellary (Karnataka), May 13 : In the second phase of elections for the Karnataka assembly constituency of Bellary, the battle is between two feudal families, one belonging to the Congress and the other to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The Reddy family of the BJP and the Lad family of the Congress control more than half of the mining business in Bellary.

Iron ore demanded by China a few years ago, has ensured that a few families control thousands of crores in just a span of few years.

Municipal Council President Somashekara Reddy who belongs to the Reddy family and Anil Lad who belongs to the Lad family are the main contestants.

Anil Lad, who has switched his loyalty from the BJP to the Congress, says he is fighting this election to end the hegemony of Reddy family.

Karnataka Congress President Mallikharjuna M Kharge is also confident of victory by a simple majority in Bellary.
