Women protest against price rise in Bihar

Scores of women took to the streets in Bihar on Wednesday to protest against rising prices of essential commodities.

Patna, May 1 : Scores of women took to the streets in Bihar on Wednesday to protest against rising prices of essential commodities.

A women's group called the 'Rashtriya Mahila Brigade' held up torches and placards against the inflationary spiral and the government's failure to take affirmative action in resering seats for women in Parliament and state legislative bodies.

"With this torch march, we want to spread this message of protest in all villages of Bihar against the UPA Government. It has made our life difficult by failing to check the rising prices of essential commodities. They haven't also passed the Women's Reservation Bill either. We will continue with such demonstrations until our demands are fulfilled," said Anita Singh, the president of the Rashtriya Mahila Brigade.

The All India Mahila Congress, the women's wing of the Congress, had recently passed a resolution demanding that the Bill providing for 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and in state Assemblies be tabled during the current session of Parliament.
