Amritsar Mar 9, : After Kashmir Singh, who languished in various jails in Pakistan for the past 35 years, was released, another Indian who is in Pakistani jail has requested authorities in India to help him in securing early release.
Kirpal Singh, who is in Kot Lakhpat Jail of Lahore and facing a death sentence by the Pakistan military court, was charged with spying. He was arrested in 1992.
He was also charged with other serious offences like bomb blast, but the Pakistan Supreme Court has bailed him out of those charges.
His family members are now seeking help from Indian authorities for his early release.
In a letter written to his elder sister Jagir Kaur, Kirpal Singh has pleaded to save him from the isolation and stress that he had been experiencing for the last sixteen years.
Kirpal Singh wrote that he is innocent and his only hope is his sister and Gurmeet Singh Sandhu, a social worker who has been trying to represent his voice in media o draw the government attention.
Jagir Kaur told ANI that after Kashmir Singh's release they hope that her brother would get treatment on par with the former.
"We are requesting the government to act as they have acted in Kashmir Singh's case and get him out of the prison," said Jagir Kaur.
Kirpal Singh was with Punjab Regiment, when he went missing. He hails from Mustakhbad Saidan Village in Gurdaspur District of Punjab. By Ravinder Singh Robin
