Congress to hold Kisan Rally in Delhi today

The Congress Party will hold a grand Kisan Rally at the Ramlila Maidan here today.

New Delhi, Mar 9 : The Congress Party will hold a grand 'Kisan Rally' at the Ramlila Maidan here today.

Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will address at the rally named 'Dhanyawad Abhinandan' (thanksgiving felicitation).

The recent budget sops for farmers will be the focus of the rally, which is expected to be attended by farmers from Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

The Congress will seek to highlight the 60,000 crore-rupee waiver of farmer loans and other benefits doled out by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government.

According to party sources, the rally will dispel all the canards being spread by opposition parties about the budget and especially the farm loan waiver.

The opposition has been cornering the UPA Government to clarify how this huge loan waiver would be paid.

The party Chief Ministers and PCC chiefs are also expected to attend the rally.

A meeting of PCC chiefs and CLP leaders has been called on March 10 to decide upon state-level conventions and rallies to reach out to the people, especially farmers.
