A day after the Meghalaya Assemble elections results were announced, 31 Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the 60-member House were on Saturday paraded before Governor S S Sidhu by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and UDP that joined hands to form Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA).
Shillong, March 8 : A day after the Meghalaya Assemble elections' results were announced, 31 Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the 60-member House were on Saturday paraded before Governor S S Sidhu by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and UDP that joined hands to form Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA).
The MLAs led by UDP president Donkupar Roy, the chief ministerial candidate of the MPA, met Sidhu to stake their claim to form next government in the state.
The MPA comprised UDP (11), NCP (14), Hills State Democratic Party (HSDP) (2), Khun Hynnieutrip National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) (1), BJP (1) and two Independents.
The Congress had emerged as the single largest party in the state by winning 25 seats.
The UDP and the NCP have reached the magic number of 31 and are almost certain to lead the next coalition government.
