Dharamshala, Mar.7 : - Tibetans in exile will begin a historic journey homeward to Tibet on March 10, the 49th anniversary of the 1959 national uprising in Tibet.

The march will commence from Dharamshala, the exile home of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and seat of the Tibetan Government in Exile.

This initiative, organized by five leading Tibetan Non-governmental Organisations based in India, is aimed at both reinvigorating the Tibetan freedom movement and fighting the Chinese occupation of Tibet.

The Organizing Committee will hold a press conference this Sunday March 9, the eve of the March launch in McLeod Ganj, at the Club House. The March will commence the following day after a brief flag off ceremony in the main Tibetan temple of Dharamshala.

The ceremony will be presided over by Karma Choephel, Chairperson of the Tibetan Parliament in exile.

In addition to 100 core marchers who are planning to return to Tibet, there will be thousands of support marchers, including Tibetans, Indians and Westerners, will participate in the march till Lower Dharamshala.
