Paramjit, the wife of Kashmir Singh, who was released from Lahores Kot Lakhpat Jail after being granted amnesty by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, has thanked the Pakistan Government for his release.
Wagah (Punjab), Mar 4 : Paramjit, the wife of Kashmir Singh, who was released from Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail after being granted amnesty by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, has thanked the Pakistan Government for his release.
"We don't know how he went there, but we got his letter two and half years ago. We are very thankful to the caretaker Federal Minister for Human Rights, Ansar Burney, and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, and the government for his release," Paramjit said.
Singh will cross into India and to his home in Punjab later today.
Shishpal, Singh's son said, "Normally a person does not survive that long in jail. So, we are happy that he is returning in a healthy state. We are very thankful to the Pakistan Government."
Kashmir Singh had been languishing in various Pakistani jails for the past 35 years. He was arrested in Rawalpindi in 1973 on charges of allegedly spying for Indian intelligence agencies.
A Pakistan military court had sentenced Kashmir Singh to death while another Indian returned to India after serving a 10-year sentence.
