Sri Lankan Army Chief Lt General G S C Fonseka visited Jammu and Kashmir on Monday to know about Indian Armys anti militancy operations.

New Delhi, Mar 3 : Sri Lankan Army Chief Lt General G S C Fonseka visited Jammu and Kashmir on Monday to know about Indian Army's anti militancy operations.

Fonseka, who arrived here on a six-day official visit, toured areas close to the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir to be briefed on anti-militancy measures by senior commanders of the northern command.

The Sri Lankan Army Chief, who has done extensive military courses in army training institutes in India begins, his formal engagements tomorrow and will meet his Indian counterpart General Deepak Kapoor, Air Chief Fali Homi Major and Naval Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta.

Fonseka will also call on the Defence Minister A K Antony, hold discussion with Defence Secretary Vijay Singh and meet National Security Adviser M K Narayanan.

The visit by the Sri Lankan Army Chief comes in the wake of the island nation increasingly looking at China and Pakistan for weapons supply in the face of India's reluctance to provide it sophisticated arms as New Delhi does not want go get sucked into the ethnic crisis in that country.
