India, Bangladesh border guards seek to resolve minor issues

Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) officers held a periodic meeting here on Monday to resolve minor issues.

Tinbigha Border (West Bengal), Mar 25 : Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) officers held a periodic meeting here on Monday to resolve minor issues.

The delegations were led by respective Deputy Inspectors General (DIG), and the issues discussed ranged from smuggling to drug trafficking."This meting is just to sort out any issues, if at all, and to bring us closer for coordination to check cross border crimes," said S. Chatterjee, DIG, BSF.

Bangladesh was represented by Abtabul Islam, DIG, BDR.

Both the countries share a porous 2,544-mile border.

India is building a barbed wire fence to prevent the unauthorized movement of people across borders.

Dhaka does not oppose the fencing per se, but objects to it being built too close to the Zero Line.

Ties between the two neighbours have normally been good, but occasionally hit rough patches over the issue of illegal immigrants and border related disputes.
