BJP will strive to fulfil the demand of Telangana: Sushma Swaraj

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj on Sunday said that her party has stepped up the agitation for the creation of a separate state of Telangana from present day Andhra Pradesh, as it favours the existence of smaller States.

Hyderabad, Mar 23 : Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj on Sunday said that her party has stepped up the agitation for the creation of a separate state of Telangana from present day Andhra Pradesh, as it favours the existence of smaller States.

"The party has intensified its agitation for creation of separate statehood for Telangana in Andhra Pradesh and now time has come and it would leave no stone unturned for getting the demand fulfilled," she said.

Sushma was speaking ahead of her trip to Sircilla in Andhra Pradesh's Karimnagar District where she is scheduled to participate in a Swadeshi Jagaran Manch function."It was not a new demand of the party as it had already passed a resolution for separate statehood for the backward Telangana region," she said.

Sushma also mentioned that she has already raised the Telangana issue in Rajya Sabha five times.

While answering a question as to why the NDA Government had failed to fulfil the Telangana statehood demand in Andhra Pradesh and that of Vidharba in Maharashtra, she replied that though the alliance had created three smaller States, it could not further the cause of these two for lack of support from other parties.
