US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi will meet Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama here today.

Dharamshala, Mar 21 : US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi will meet Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama here today.

The Tibetan issue is likely to be a matter of focus during her visit in view of the recent Chinese crackdown in Lhasa.

She was a strong supporter of the move to honour the Dalai Lama with the Congressional Gold Medal, a top US civilian honour.

Besides meeting the Tibetan leadership, Pelosi is likely to ascertain the situation across the border.

On Thursday, Pelosi met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi. She paid floral tribute at Rajghat, the memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi.

Pelosi, who is on a five-day visit, is also scheduled to visit Agra and Mumbai.

Pelosi is undertaking an "India Only" visit unlike her other colleagues who include other countries in their itinerary.

The previous US Speaker to visit India was Dennis Hastert of the Republican Party.
