US House Speaker Pelosi meets Manmohan Singh

US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here today.

New Delhi, Mar 20 : US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here today.

Pelosi arrived here last night on a five-day visit.

During her visit, Pelosi will meet top Indian leaders. She is likely to hold discussions on key issues such as the bilateral US-India civilian nuclear deal. The developments in Tibet may also be discussed. Pelosi is an admirer of the Dalai Lama and has backed his calls for dialogue with Beijing.

Later in the day, Pelosi is slated to meet External Affair Minister Pranab Mukherjee and visit Rajghat, the memorial dedicated Mahatma Gandhi.

Pelosi is undertaking an "India Only" visit unlike her other colleagues who include other countries in their itinerary.

According to sources, Pelosi is also scheduled to visit Agra and Mumbai. She is likely to go to Dharamsala to meet the Tibetan leadership and ascertain the situation across the border.

The previous US Speaker to visit India was Dennis Hastert of the Republican Party.
