The head of the Congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA), D.D. Lapang will prove its strength on the floor of the assembly today.

Shillong, Mar 19 : The head of the Congress-led Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA), D.D. Lapang will prove its strength on the floor of the assembly today.

Congress with 28 legislators, including three Independents, in the 60-member house, expects wining over rival Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA).

Lapang is likely to resign today asked by National Congress Party (NCP) leader P A Sangma.

Meghalaya Governor S. S. Sidhu's decision to invite Lapang was challenged in the Supreme Court by former Lok Sabha Speaker Sangma.

Sangma had claimed that the NCP-led MPA had the support of 31 of the 60 elected members, whereas the Congress had not been able to cobble up a majority.
