Dharamsala, Mar 19 : Two former Tibetan political prisoners, who were earlier a part of a group known as the 'singing nuns' and had taken refuge in Dharamshala, are praying for the restoration of peace in Tibet.
They are worried about the turn of events in Tibet and the recent spurt in violence.
They say that human rights violation is rampant in Tibet and normalcy needs to be restored at the earliest.
"We don't have basic human rights. We don't have religious freedom because of the gross violation of human rights in Tibet. I stood for Tibet and asked for freedom for Tibet and people out there in Tibet. For this reason, I was put in prison for 12 years," said Phuntsdok, the translator for Lhundup Sangmo, one of the singing nuns.
The nuns who had left the Chinese region travelled through Nepal before reaching Dharamshala.
The two Buddhist nuns were first detained in August of 1990 for their roles in protests, but their sentences were extended when they, along with 12 other jailed nuns, recorded nationalist songs about Tibet in 1993 that were smuggled out of prison.
The nuns say that they chose to leave because of restrictions placed on them even after they were released.
Tibetan exiles across the globe are expressing their solidarity for Tibetans in China by protesting for a free Tibet. They are demanding that the Beijing Olympic games be stopped. They also called for the exiled Dalai Lama to be allowed to live in Tibet.
