Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Trinamool Congress activists clashed in Nandigram on Saturday a day after opposition parties observed the first anniversary of a police firing that claimed 14 lives.

Nandigram(WB), Mar 15 : Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Trinamool Congress activists clashed in Nandigram on Saturday a day after opposition parties observed the first anniversary of a police firing that claimed 14 lives.

According to Superintendent of Police, S Panda, "The clash took place at Chowrangi Bazar at about 11 am and in which six persons were injured, including CPI (M) and Trinamool activists.

CPI (M) leader Ashok Bera claimed that two of their workers were beaten up by Trinamool men while passing through the area on a motorbike.

The two have been admitted to hospital Bera said.

The Trinamool Congress, however, claimed that four of its workers were beaten up by CPI (M) activists after an altercation at a tea stall.

No arrest has been made so far.

Villagers were killed at Nandigram village on March 14 last year after police fired on opponents of a planned industrial park. It was the worst reported violence yet in response to government plans to acquire farmland for or Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
