"We are watching the situation in Tibet," Mukherjee told reporters here.
"We will respond in a day or two," he added.
Tibet is witnessing sporadic violence for the last few days as they have been protesting against China's rule on their country.
Violence started in Lhasa on Friday when protesters led by Buddhist monks had a clash with Chinese troops. According to the Tibetan Government in exile, at least 30 people have died in the violence.
As the Olympics approach, Tibetans are trying to revive their freedom movement and protest against what they see as China's illegal occupation of their homeland.
Hundreds of Tibetan refugees set off on a march to Tibet from India on March 10 as part of global protests to mark the 49th anniversary of an uprising against Chinese rule. They have since been stopped by the Indian authorities. India has said that its soil cannot be used for anti China propaganda or protest.
According to a Xinhua news agency report, law and order authorities in Tibet have issued a notice to the rioters, to surrender by Monday midnight or face a severe security clampdown.
