Nandas sent to judicial custody for 14 days

Special judge I K Kochhar today sent Arms dealer Suresh Nanda, along with his son and two others, to 14 days judicial custody in a case relating to alleged tampering with evidence to influence the investigations in defence deals.

New Delhi, Mar 14 : Special judge I K Kochhar today sent Arms dealer Suresh Nanda, along with his son and two others, to 14 days judicial custody in a case relating to alleged tampering with evidence to influence the investigations in defence deals.

All the four accused were produced before Kochhar who sent them to judicial custody till March 28. The judge rejected the CBI plea for seven more days of police remand.

The investigating agency contended that the accused were to be confronted with several incriminating documents recovered from them during an Income Tax raid last year as also records of intercepted conversations.

Nanda, along with his son Sanjeev - also an accused in the BMW hit-and-run case - his chartered accountant Bipin Shah and Income Tax deputy director (investigation) Ashutosh Verma were arrested on March 8 from a hotel in Mumbai following a raid by the CBI sleuths.

They were allegedly "holding a clandestine meeting to withhold or destroy the incriminating documents seized by the Income Tax department during raids at Nandas' premises in February 2007."

They were later produced before a Special CBI judge who had remanded them to CBI custody till Friday.
