New Delhi, Mar 14 : Artful drapes and contours used in multiple themes in designer Gaurav Gupta's collection gave an eye-soothing experience to the audience at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week on Thursday.
'Future of Couture' winner at Rome, Gaurav is best known for his drapes and curves in the fashion world.
Lightweight flowing crepes, chiffons and satins were intricately folded, draped and moulded around the human body to create silhouettes which appeared sculpted at the top and flared out to organic flowing asymmetrically cut hems.
Gaurav's collection had multiple themes for his collection.
"The whole collection was all about a process, which came from texturing the fabric. The fabrics were textured and there were shaped pin tucks. Instead of making the pin tucks straight, we shaped them and then I created a 3D fabric. And then from 3D fabric we created forms and then finally into garments," Gupta said.
The designer presented outfits for both daywear and eveningwear for both men and women.
Black fully pleated coats with kimono sleeves and smartly paneled fitted jackets combined with pants draped at hip and thigh level compiled men's wear.
The minimalist colour palette included smokey greys, matted golds and washed mermaid greens.
Elegant designs almost managed to put the spectators into a dreamy world, but the golden metal coat at the end became the main eye catcher.
The ensembles were without additional ornamentations as the layers decorated and enhanced the body at the same time.
Around 82 designers are showcasing their autumn and winter collections at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week' 2008 for more than 150 domestic and international buyers at the Pragati Maidan, a sprawling trade promotion complex in New Delhi.
Estimated to be worth at around six-seven billion rupees, the Indian fashion industry is slated to grow further.
