The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), the premier training institution at Pune, offered a glimpse of 75 glorious years of film making by exhibiting cameras, projectors, studio equipment and allied sound systems at an exclusive museum.

Pune, Mar 13 : The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), the premier training institution at Pune, offered a glimpse of 75 glorious years of film making by exhibiting cameras, projectors, studio equipment and allied sound systems at an exclusive museum.
The museum is a mesmerizing celluloid journey, which takes one through the stills of several old films like `Sairandhree' and `Sant Tukaram' made in black and white. It also displays props like the arches used on sets, the beds and the pillars used during the making of classics like `Balgandharva' and `Vishnupant Pagnis'.
It also showcases the jewellery used by yesteryear actors and artistic lamps of various kinds.
"in early years, the studio and the film laboratory were adjacent to each other. The laboratory and the theatre were located cheek by jowl and hence developing the film was easy. They developed the film at night and the director checked it the next morning," said Yasim Fattelal, director.
"This helped in getting the next shots readied. These days, the film is shot here and sent to Bombay for developing," Yasim added.
Established in the year 1960 on the erstwhile Prabhat studio premises at the Pune FTII has truly lived up to its avowed objective in the field of imparting training in film making and television programme production.
Today the FTII is considered as a Centre of Excellence not only in India but also in Asia and Europe. Films made by the students of the Institute are entered in festivals both in India and abroad. Many of them have won National and International awards.
Several famous Bollywood film stars like Dev Anand, Subhash Ghai, Naseeruddin Shah, Jaya Bhaduri, Raza Murad, Shatrughan Sinha, Mithun Chakraborty, Tom Alter, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Raj Kumar Hirani honed their acting skills at this institute.
