Following the uproar created in the Lok Sabha due to violence in Kerala`s Kannur district, Chatterjee said, "The Parliament has become a road. I can only express my agony...It is the murder of democracy."
He urged the lawmakers to avoid creating hurdles in the proceedings of the House.
Requesting the Members of Parliament to behave properly and maintain the decorum of the House, Chatterjee said that the disruption in Parliament costs heavily to the state's exchequer and kills the valuable time of all the lawmakers.
He expressed his resentment and agony while adjourning the House for two hours following a verbal spat between the BJP and Left MPs over the political violence in Kerala's Kannur district and the state High Court's observation that central forces should be sent there.
Urging the MPs to restore the glory of the House, Chatterjee said that since they were the chosen representatives of Indian citizens, they must stay within reasonable limits.
The fierce remarks from the Speaker were made when BJP leader Anant Kumar demanded the dismissal of Kerala Government pointing out that the Kerala High Court has criticised the state government's role in controlling the political violence in northern Kerala.
Clashes between the CPI-M and Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) workers in Kannur district's Thalassery town in the northern part of Kerala have led to the death of seven people since last week.
