Government to bring special marriage act for Sikhs

Law and Justice Minister H R Bhardwaj on Monday said that Government is planning to bring in a Special Marriage Act for the Sikhs.

New Delhi, Mar 10 : Law and Justice Minister H R Bhardwaj on Monday said that Government is planning to bring in a Special Marriage Act for the Sikhs.

Bhardwaj said, "the government has taken note of demands from various Sikh organisations and there should not be a problem in introducing such an act.

He said the government has no plans to make registration of Hindu marriages compulsory under the law, while answering a question.

"Supreme Court had directed that marriage of all persons should be registered compulsorily in their respective states and the "matter is being carefully examined in its full ramifications," he added.
