Deloitte India Wins the First Edition of ICICI Bank Premier Cricket League

Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India

Deloitte India beat Deutsche Bank Group by 3 wickets in a hotly contested final of the ICICI Bank Premier Cricket League played at Thakur stadium, Mumbai on March 9, 2008. Deloitte India reached finals by winning the Hyderabad division of the league, whereas Deutsche Bank Group reached the finals by winning the Mumbai division of league.

Deutsche Bank Group won the toss and elected to bat. They immediately got into trouble by losing Maharshi Desai's wicket on the first ball of the match. Amit Narvekar and Mandar Ponkhse then put up a good partnership to bring up 50 runs. Their partnership was suddenly broken by a brilliant catch taken by Akhilesh Pandey. After the departure of Amit, Mandar continued to bat brilliantly while wickets kept tumbling at the other end. The bowler duo of Sumith Reddy and Ramakrishna kept the Deutsche Bank batsmen under check by bowling tightly in the middle overs. After Mandar was run out by Adithya Chousky at 93, the rest of the Deutsch Bank batsmen could manage only 15 more runs before being all out for 108 runs.

Batting second, Deloitte India lost the wickets of Akhilesh Pandey, Adithya Chousky and Ashley Trevor for 17 runs in 4 overs. Kishore Jog took 2 wickets in a brilliant first spell.

Madhusudhan Siva and Sai Shankar then put a solid fourth wicket partnership of 35 runs to bring up 50 runs for Deloitte. After that, some inspired bowling from Viraj Pai saw Deloitte losing 3 more wickets for an additional 20 runs. Sumith Reddy and RamaKrishna then put a seventh wicket partnership of 34 runs to take away the match from Deutsche Bank Group.

The day clearly belonged to Sumith Reddy and RamaKrishna who put a superb bowling display and also batted well to win the match for Deloitte. Sumith Reddy was declared man of the match.

T. Viswanatha Reddy, Founder and CEO, Viswam Sports Network, said "The inaugural edition of Premier Cricket League is success. The high level of competition in the finals is a testament to that. Premier Cricket League is a national corporate cricket league. Viswam Sports Network is working on bringing Premier Cricket League to four more cities in the second edition. The 2009 season would feature Pune, Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore in addition to the existing league cities Mumbai and Hyderabad."
