Slain UK youths family helps to bring light in lives of Tibetan kids

A slain British charity volunteer, Michael Blakeys parents have raised 22,000 pounds in UK, for setting up a centre for destitute children at Dharamsala, to make their sons dream come true.

Dharamsala, Mar 1 : A slain British charity volunteer, Michael Blakey's parents have raised 22,000 pounds in UK, for setting up a centre for destitute children at Dharamsala, to make their son's dream come true.

Michael, a 23-year-old graduate from Swansea University, was brutally murdered in November 2006 in Dharamsala.

His last dream was to buy land to build a bigger and better hostel accommodation for destitute Tibetan children.

"Michael's parents joined the organization in UK. They collected money which is to be donated to the Tong-Len Charitable Trust, which provides schooling and hostel facilities to children of slum areas," said Jamyang, coordinator and founder of the Trust.

"Michael was very nice. We don't know who murdered such a nice man. We remember him even now. We will never be able to forget what he has done for us," said Nisha, a student.

Michael had spent five months with one of the charity's projects in Dharamsala. He was involved in the research and development side of the charity's work on education, health and community-based projects.

The trust proposes to initiate various activities for the welfare of destitute children as planned by Michael by setting up the centre.

Michael had been staying at the Kirti monastery, near the main temple in McLeodganj. His body was found lying in a gorge near St. John's Church close to McLeodganj.
