In a major haul, Punjab Police seized nearly 25 kg of heroin, valued at 6.25 million dollars in international market, in Ferozepur District.

Ferozepur (Punjab), Mar 1 : In a major haul, Punjab Police seized nearly 25 kg of heroin, valued at 6.25 million dollars in international market, in Ferozepur District.

The police also arrested two persons - Sukhpal Singh and Sukhdev Singh - in this regard.

"These two were taking 25 kilograms of heroin on a motor bike. We have registered case against them," said Ferozepur SSP Dinesh Pratap Singh.

Narcotics agencies say that India is a major transit point for drug smuggling to the West where drugs fetch a higher price.

Heroin is derived from morphine, a naturally occurring substance extracted from the seedpod of the Asian poppy plant, and appears as a white or brown powder.
