BJP wins trust vote in Karnataka

As anticipated the first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Karnataka led by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa won the trust vote crossing the final hurdle here today.

Bangalore June 6 : As anticipated the first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Karnataka led by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa won the trust vote crossing the final hurdle here today.

After the congress members staged a walkout and the speaker Jagadeesh Shettar directed on a voice vote, which consolidated BJP's position.

It was amidst hectic drama and speeches the motion was moved for a trust vote by the Chief Minister in the evening and requested a favour for the motion without debate.

The Congress walked out in protest and voice vote consolidated his position. Later talking to media in the evening Yeddyurappa said the vote of confidence has given five years time to BJP to prove as per the manifesto.

The BJP won the vote of confidence through a voice vote, which included the support of the six independents, five of whom are in the cabinet.

The BJP with 110 seats in the 224-member house formed the government with the help of six independent candidates.

The Chief Minister has said that the state was considering reduce the tax on petrol.

Earlier in the day the Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Takur addressed the joint session of the house, which was marred by protest and walkouts. By Kestur Vasuki
