Sacked Assam education minister, co-accused in CBI custody

Tis Hazari Court today remanded sacked Assam Education Minister Ripun Borah and a co-accused to three-day CBI custody for allegedly offering a bribe of Rs ten lakh to a CBI officer.

New Delhi, June 4 : Tis Hazari Court today remanded sacked Assam Education Minister Ripun Borah and a co-accused to three-day CBI custody for allegedly offering a bribe of Rs ten lakh to a CBI officer.

Additional Sessions Judge R K Yadav said, "CBI plea seeking custodial interrogation of accused Ripun Borah and Ramesh K Maheshwari is justified. Since the fact and missing links of the circumstantial evidence are to be collected from Guwahati as well, I am of opinion that they be remanded to police custody till June 7."

The court said that the accusations, justifying their arrest, were well founded.

According to the CBI, Ripun Borah who was a minister in the Assam Government along with Pathak, had come to Delhi on June 2 and invited the official to an Inn at Sunder Nagar in South Delhi.

The Minister asked Maheshwari to come with a bag of Rs 10 lakh inside the hotel who threw it in Room number 213, the CBI in its report said.

Borah was arrested at his Mathura Road residence by the CBI on Tuesday for allegedly offering a bribe of ten lakh rupees to an agency official.

The CBI has registered a case of criminal conspiracy against him.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi sacked Bora from the Ministry following the arrest.
